I had an interesting thought about canon having drawn that. What if heavy armoured ponies worked in teams of two, one doing the shielding and another being the swordsman? Because having a pony wear a big ass, effective shield and a sword at the same time seems nigh impossible?

Not so! Any pony fighter worth their salt should be able to wield the weapon in the mouth to some greater effect. Possibly, you could design the helmet to be open around the muzzle or have a metal attachment bit that effectively shields the face and grips the sword. The image is a picture of horse barding, which showcases the openness of a horse's gear.

Your design is very lovely, however, and I could imagine any number of ways to work weapons into it. For instance, put a sharp unicorn-like spike to that nasty bit of facial gear and you have an excellent ramming object. Horses do enjoy charging with their head down as is.

If it's a full-arm shield, one that latches around the entirety of the arm, it would be possible for one pony to hold the shield as if it were a wall, and use the sword when necessary. So long as they have a neckguard on their armor, opposite the side that they hold their shield, they would have little fear of slashing weapons.

Indeed, that thought, after some time, occurred to me as well. Some fancy spike or blade attachments to the helmet might've been a very effective mean of assaulting your adversary and it is as you state. Horses do enjoy charging in that way.
However, a quick switch from a defensive stance with shield to a charge would still prove as a mighty difficult task! So I guess even with such weaponry as said attachments, they'd serve either as an additional accessory for close combat defense or aa a last resort tactic, throw your shield away and charge!

I haven't had any time to myself in months but I figured I'd post something I finally was able to work on

I'll make it brief but this was an OC and story I wish I could have the time for but this is what I got.

Here on the left is Doohickey, and her alter ego Dazzler
she is the daughter of Grifter a legendary batp0ny thief and Madame prestige, a renowned Magician unicorn p0ny. Her parents met during Grifters last big heist, something went wrong and he was badly injured and nearly captured if it were not for the intervention of madame prestige who loved reading about his work in the papers, giving him a place to hide and work in disguise they fell in love and had a foal. That foal was Doohickey, a Batp0ny who hearing the stories of her fathers glory days and seeing her mothers magic shows was inspired. Depressed that she was born a batp0ny and not a unicorn she endeavored to create the illusion of magic and so began tinkering away and inventing until she earned her cm for it. She tried to become famous with this act but since she wasnt magical and a bat p0ny at that no one would see what she worked so hard for so instead she began her alter ego "Dazzler" hiding her wings under the tux and painting her coat, adding a horn to her hat she began to take the attention she craved with grand thefts with the illusion of magic bewildering everyone and attracting the attention of the law and papers.

When it comes to the armour of the ponies in my story, I imagine them more or less based around ancient Greece style, similar to in-show. Particularly when it comes to the plumes and the helmet style.

For Echo, Mosina and Night Watch, they wear the "medium" armour sets, so their helmets will usually mostly resemble pic related, kind of. Speck's helmet, as you've done it, is fine, 'cause I imagine her helmet to be heavier.

I do. They'll follow this style.

I've mentioned a purple metal called "Umbra" in the story, which is what the "endgame" equipment is made of. Like Mosina's and Speck's newest equipment. The eye, here, I've pinned as the symbol for the elite Night Guard, and will be a prevalent symbol on the Umbra armour sets.

Night Watch, Mosina and Echo (and possibly <partymember#6>) will have armour sets similar or equivalent to pic related, in terms of the amount of armour covering their bodies (and the purple metal). Your drawing of tankSpeck is a decent representation of what I had in mind as her final armour set.

However, <partymember#5> and possibly <partymember#6> will wear the "light" armour sets. How that looks... I'm not entirely sure, yet. I'm imagining lightly plated leather, and possibly facemasks.

well, if I want to vector a photo, Vector Magic is useless
I use it only for pictures with smooth lines and not many colors.
Usually it's just a photoshop and hours with layers and the pen tool
